Kenya - Day 2: The Lake Nakuru National Park

The Lake Nakuru National Park, being one of the best tourist attractions in Kenya, is home to a massive population of flamingoes and other birds. Other large mammals like rhinos can also be found here. Apart from flamingoes, pelicans and storks also form a major part of the bird life here. It is during the winter season that the flamingos migrate from here to other nearby places like Tanzania. We were unlucky as during our visit, the flamingos had already migrated elsewhere. We got to see pelicans all over the lake and also quite a big population of painted storks. We also spotted a few rhinoes and a lone hyena hidden inside the grasses. The climate was cool and extremely beautiful cloud-filled sky surrounded the location. The place was splashed with the natural colors of the clouds, grass as well as the colorful birds that occupied this habitat. Usually during the flamingo season, one can see the horizon lined up with dense populations of them in pink and white colors. And nothing can beat the extreme uniformity of the birds, be it flying or landing or even moving around. I expected to take a lot of good photographs but to my disappointment, due to low lighting because of the clouds, almost all of my photos there went really bad. This was mainly because i could not use a tripod as well and that we were moving in a safari jeep that was running on very crampy roads thus making it very hard to keep the camera steady. I was totally not satisfied with the photographs myself but still wanted to share them. One of the reasons is that is can be an example for others to take precautions for cloudy days and the second is that the place was so awesome that its beauty could not be expressed in mere words. After having this memorable experience, we returned back to our lodge. While exiting the park, we saw a few giraffes hiding inside the dense groups of trees. We then had an entertainment event, a dance show by the tribal people of Nakuru district, along with drinks and campfire. After the performance, we enjoyed our dinner and went to rest ourselves to freshen up for the next day's exciting trip.

  2. Hey they are viewable but look at the clarity. Almost all the shots in the park are a bit grainy. Nothing is tack sharp.
